Telemedicine stopped being a pilot. The question is no longer whether it works, but who pays for it, who is liable, and who is still waiting.

Four things, each one the product of a session and the group activity that follows it.

  • A consultation you can defend History taking at a distance, remote monitoring and record integration, applied to your own caseload rather than a vendor demonstration.
  • A shortlist that survives your infrastructure How to judge platforms, connected devices and wearables against the bandwidth and staffing you actually have, not the ones a brochure assumes.
  • The regulatory ground you stand on Data privacy, cross border licensing, medical ethics, reimbursement and liability as they apply to virtual care today.
  • A written action plan Case studies from other health systems, adapted in the room to reach rural and marginalised populations in yours.

How the day works

No block runs longer than twenty minutes without you doing something. Five talks, four facilitated activities, and a working system taken apart in front of you.

  1. Learn the ground

    Five presentations, twenty minutes each, from people running services in South Africa, Zimbabwe and the United States.

  2. Work the problem

    Four facilitated group activities. You design the hybrid consultation, then argue the ethics and the AI question with the room.

  3. See it running

    Forty five minutes of live demonstration, plus five postgraduate research showcases covering rural clinics, surgical telementoring and screening.

Before you register

Is there a cost to attend?
No. The masterclass is free to attend, but places are limited by the room.
Do I need a technical background?
No. The day is built for clinicians, managers and policymakers. Nothing assumes engineering knowledge, and the group activities are designed so that a nurse and a systems architect can work on the same problem.
Is the masterclass online or in person?
In person only, at UCT Breakwater Lodge on the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. It is not streamed and it is not recorded.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A certificate of attendance is issued to everyone who completes the day.
Are meals provided?
Yes. Two tea breaks and lunch are included in the programme, between 10:30 and 14:30.
